The Story Behind IndieToolkit
In 2022, I was a freelance developer billing international clients. I subscribed to a popular invoicing tool based on glowing reviews from US bloggers — paid $228/year, excited to look professional.
Then my CA asked me for GST invoices. The tool had a “taxes” field, but it didn't follow GSTIN format. Client payments in USD couldn't reconcile with INR bank statements. Indian support? A US time zone chatbot.
I wasted months troubleshooting and eventually switched. But what really frustrated me was: every review I found was written by someone who'd never filed a GST return.
IndieToolkit is the resource I wish existed. Every review is tested with an actual Indian freelance setup — Indian credit cards, GST numbers from real businesses, UPI apps, and Indian bank accounts.
